Sacramento Memorial Auditorium
IS LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO 1515 J Street Sacramento CA (916)264-5181 The Sacramento Memorial Auditorium opened in 1927, on a block donated by Sacramento city founder John Sutter. The auditorium is dedicated to Sacramentans killed while serving their country in the military. In 1986, the auditorium was closed to improve the structure. It took six years to agree on a plan that would keep the facility a public building that could be used for concerts, as well as graduation ceremonies and other events. In November of 1996, the Memorial Auditorium opened once again with a celebration that included a concert by the Doobie Brothers.![]() Today a variety of events take place at the auditorium. Concerts at the venue work well because of the large floor space in the middle that is left open for moshing and crowd surfing at rock shows, and can be set up with chairs for other events. Theatre style seating surrounds the floor and provides a good view of the stage. Street parking is available. Parking lots and great restaurants and bars are in close walking distance of the venue. Tickets are sold at the Sacramento Community Center box office on 1301 L Street, by phone, or can be purchased on Buy Tickets links for most concert events.
